Weekly progress (Podcast Project)
Week 1
In the class we created our group for the podcast project, my group consisted of 4 people (Hugo, Kanna, Kimi, and Erina). We began by discussing what kind of podcast we wanted to make and we decided we would make a podcast about true crime for teenagers our age. We then made a survey in google form to conduct what kind of podcast people our age was interested in. During this class, we also listened to 2 different history podcasts and analyzed which audience they are targeting using Demographics/Psychographics.
Week 2
In class, my team (Kimi, Kanna, and Erina) did some discussion on our initial plans/ideas for our podcast. For our podcast, we choose two cases to discuss, Jack The Ripper and The Black Dahlia. We made a survey to narrow down what kind of content the audience our age is interested in. Judging from the survey we have summarized that people tend to like older crimes more than modern crimes. They prefer to listen to narrator-based storytelling podcasts more than narrative-based ones. The majority of the people we have surveyed are fond of heavy crimes, and most are fine with gory/graphic content. More than half favor western crime cases and most would rather have episodic stories rather than continuing ones.
Week 3
Today in class we learned about what consisted in the intro of our podcast (Jingle, host into topic intro) my team tried to make our jingle for our podcast. We played around with some editing software a little bit here and there getting familiar with the workspace.
Week 4
Today my team went to the radio room to get a tutorial on the equipment that we will be using for our podcast. We learned about 2 types of mics, one being a dynamic mic and the other a condensed mic. Then we
Week 5
Today in class we did some thumbnail development. We did this individually, researching around what different kinds of thumbnails from different kinds of podcasts across genres. Then we analyzed what different contents and topics usually have as their thumbnail like e.g. podcast featuring celebrities have their faces as their podcast thumbnails. The thumbnails represent what kind of content and topics the audience are expecting to hear.
Week 6
This week my teammate Erina finished recording for both episodes of our podcast. Then it was edited by my team member Kimi, who found multiple sources for SFX and BGM for our podcast. Artists like David Fesliyan and the website freesound.org.
Week 7
My team member Kimi finished editing the first episode of out podcast and we had Mr. Nick to give our podcast a listen, here are some suggestions that he gave us:
- 1,10 - the time between when you stop speaking and when the music starts is too long.
- the audio in the tape recording sections is a little quiet.
- 6,18 - "call Manly? for help" Maybe have a dial tone play as background music
- try a different accent for the recorded voices, especially the man. Maybe experiment with a male voice to see if it works.
- the gag about being interrupted breaks with the tone of the show, just go to "And now a word from our sponsor
- For the outro music, I would read out the credits. "Written by ....., edited by.... voice acting by...." Or maybe a teaser for the next weeks' episode.
- Intro. Are you going to have the podcast name at the start of the show?
